Research Hub

Start with free and official sources first, then move to paid tools only if you still need help locating the right records.

A free-first record strategy

This page is designed to help you search smarter, not just search more. We always recommend starting with official archives, parishes, diocesan archives, FamilySearch, and other free tools before you pay for broader search platforms.

🧭
How to use this page
Pick the record type you are missing first, then work from official and church sources outward. Paid tools are listed last as optional accelerators after any trial period.

Best first path

  • 1. Identify the exact town, parish, or region if possible.
  • 2. Search Polish archives and parish routes first.
  • 3. Use U.S. records to bridge generations if needed.
  • 4. Try paid search tools only if free sources do not surface the record.

Search by Record Type

Use the section that matches the document you are trying to locate or strengthen.

Birth & Civil Records

Birth Certificates

Best when you need the strongest lineage links and place-of-origin evidence. Start with Polish civil registries and state archives.

Civil & Church Records

Marriage Certificates

Especially important where surnames changed across generations. These help connect the proof chain clearly.

Supporting Documentation

Death Records

Usually not the strongest proof on their own, but often useful for confirming names, places, and family relationships.

U.S. Bridge Records

Naturalization Papers

Useful for proving migration patterns, origin points, and family continuity in the United States.

Supporting Documentation

Census Records

Helpful for family grouping, timing, migration, and narrowing the right line, but usually stronger as background support than as primary proof.

Nationality Evidence

Polish Nationality & Identity Evidence

Use these when you need something stronger than family memory: passports, military booklets, IDs, registry notes, school or property records, or other documents pointing to Polish nationality.

Some optional paid research links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. We always place free and official sources first, and paid sites may require payment after any trial period.
